Review: RUSH (2013)

Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl are top notch in this entertaining but banal racing car drama.

Review: DIANA (2013)

Poor script, bad direction and Naomi Watts' surprisingly empty performance as Princess Diana makes this biopic a waste of time.

Review: THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG (2013)

It's still draggy in places, but at least THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG is a minor improvement over the bloated first HOBBIT movie.

Review: POLICE STORY 2013 警察故事2013 (2013)

The complexity of the plot in POLICE STORY 2013 is interesting but uneven, while the pacing is inconsistent along with some questionable choice of direction.

Review: FIRESTORM 風暴 (2013)

Andy Lau is engaging in this solid but uneven action thriller.

Review: FROZEN (2013)

Filled with excellent voice talents and memorable sing-a-long songs, FROZEN is enchanting but formulaic Disney animated feature.

Monday, 9 December 2013

Review: HOMEFRONT (2013)

Despite the involvement of Statham, Franco and Stallone, HOMEFRONT is disappointingly bland and uninspired action drama.

Friday, 6 December 2013

Review: THE WHITE STORM 扫毒 (2013)

A hugely entertaining but bloated crime thriller featuring solid performances from Lau Ching-Wan, Louis Koo and Nick Cheung.

Top 5 Reasons Why Gal Gadot Makes An Exceptional Wonder Woman In BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN Movie

By now, entertainment news has spread like wildfire after Israeli actress and model Gal Gadot had been cast as Wonder Woman a.k.a. Diana Prince in Zack Snyder's yet-untitled BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN movie. Here's what Snyder had to say about the casting choice via Variety:

Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character

Despite the fact that the DC Comic's Wonder Woman character has finally received its long-awaited big screen debut, the casting choice was greeted with mixed response. But personally I thought Snyder made a bold but interesting choice of casting Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. Here's why:

1. She's fresh

Casting an unknown for a famous DC comic-book character like Wonder Woman is a very risky move. But Snyder made the right choice not to pick familiar faces like Olga Kurylenko, but rather go for the fresh faces like Gal Gadot instead. After all, it's more interesting to see how a fresh face might pull off a famous comic-book character. Remember how Henry Cavill manages to nail his Superman role big time in last year's MAN OF STEEL?

2. She's exotic

That's right, the first thing that quickly struck to mind is the exotic appearance of Wonder Woman. Naturally, Gal Gadot has that look because of her Israeli root. Not to mention, she's a great looker as well.

3. She's a soldier

Believe it or not, but she did join the Israeli Army at the age of 20, where she served as sports trainer during her two-year service team in the Israel Defense Forces. Which of course, that would be no problem when comes to physical demand and action sequence (see her work in FAST & FURIOUS movies).

4. She's tall

Okay, so the Wonder Woman character is actually 5'11'' and she's 5'9''. But seriously, she is considered tall enough to possess the height of a Wonder Woman character.

5. She's tough

Don't let her model look and skinny appearance fool you. Gadot is an avid motorcycle racer and owns a black 2006 Ducati Monster-S2R -- that explains why she looks effortlessly cool appearing in 2009's FAST & FURIOUS, 2011's FAST FIVE and 2013's FAST & FURIOUS 6 as Gisele Harabo.

So there you go. And now, here's hoping that Snyder uses the Wonder Woman character sparingly (a cameo appearance would be a better choice) in his BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN movie. After all, this is supposed to be a MAN OF STEEL sequel, not a JUSTICE LEAGUE movie.

BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN is scheduled to open on July 17, 2015.

Review: ESCAPE FROM L.A. (1996)

This sequel recycles a lot from the first movie, but considerably more fun and exciting.

Kurt Russell is iconic as Snake Plissken in this sluggish, but fairly entertaining futuristic actioner.

Review: THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE (2013)

A minor improvement over the original, with Jennifer Lawrence excels as usual, even though the sequel remains lacklustre.
