Review: FOCUS (2015)

FOCUS started out well as an impressively slick and sexy caper, but loses focus halfway through.

Review: 12 GOLDEN DUCKS 12金鴨 (2015)

12 GOLDEN DUCKS is haphazard, but reasonably fun and entertaining enough for a lighthearted star-studded comedy.

Oscars 2015 Best Picture Nominee Review #8: WHIPLASH

WHIPLASH
Writer-director Damien Chazelle turns the musical genre inside out with a riveting mix of psychological drama in the cutthroat world of jazz drumming.

Oscars 2015 Best Picture Nominee Review #7: THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING

THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING
THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING is beautifully mounted, but unremarkable biopic drama with great performances from Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones.

Oscars 2015 Best Picture Nominee Review #6: THE IMITATION GAME

THE IMITATION GAME
Thanks to Benedict Cumberbatch's remarkable performance and its fascinating premise about code-breaking, THE IMITATION GAME mostly succeeds as an above-average biopic about the life of Alan Turing.

Oscars 2015 Best Picture Nominee Review #5: THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL

THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL
With playful narrative, extraordinary cast and breathtaking production design, Wes Anderson's THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL is spellbinding if soulless cinematic experience.

Oscars 2015 Best Picture Nominee Review #4: SELMA

SELMA
David Oyelowo's commanding portrayal as the 1960s Civil Rights movement leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gives a top notch performance in this stirring but flawed biopic drama.

Review: FROM VEGAS TO MACAU II 賭城風雲 II (2015)

Chow Yun-Fat's energetic and wacky charm alone can't save much in this sloppy, yet largely uninspired sequel of FROM VEGAS TO MACAU.

Review: TRIUMPH IN THE SKIES 衝上雲霄 (2015)

TRIUMPH IN THE SKIES is nothing more than a glossy romantic drama equivalent of an extended music video montage.

Review: KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE (2015)

For all the flashy style and gleefully over-the-top spirit in KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE, writer-director Matthew Vaughn tries too hard to be fun and cheeky, but doesn't quite succeeds entirely.
