Ulasan: CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR (2016)


Bersambung dari filem sekuel AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON (2015) yang melibatkan kemusnahan negara Sokovia, Avengers telah dianggap merbahaya kerana menyebabkan kematian ramai orang awam walaupun berkali-kali menyelamatkan dunia dari ancaman penjahat. Setiausaha Negara Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross (William Hurt), memberitahu bahawa Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu dalam proses meluluskan "Sokovia Accord", sistem yang bakal mengawal kesemua ahli Avengers. Akibat rintihan seorang ibu (Alfre Woodard) yang kematian anaknya di Sokovia, Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) menyokong saranan kekangan terhadap Avengers manakala Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) menentang. Dengan kemunculan Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) menimbulkan huru hara, anggota Avengers terpaksa memilih untuk menandatangani atau mengingkari "Sokovia Accord".

Review: CRIMINAL (2016)


When CIA operative Bill Pope (Ryan Reynolds) is killed during a top-secret mission, the only chance to retrieve his memory that contains vital info about a young hacker known as "The Dutchman" (Michael Pitt) is through memory implant. By doing so, CIA chief Quaker Wells (Gary Oldman) enlisted brilliant neurosurgeon Dr. Franks (Tommy Lee Jones) to transfer Pope's memories into another human subject. And the best candidate turns out to be a death-row convict named Jericho Stewart (Kevin Costner). After the surgery completes with no apparent positive result, Jericho ends up being sent away but manages to escape custody. Now at large in London, Jericho soon experiencing a series of headaches where Pope's fragmented memories start to jumble up in his mind.

Review: THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER'S WAR (2016)


In this follow-up of sorts to 2012's SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, this latest instalment tells "another story" -- as narrated by the uncredited Liam Neeson -- about the evil Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron) turning her otherwise happy sister, Freya (Emily Blunt) into a ruthless ice queen. Since then, Freya sets up her own kingdom and trains an army of Huntsmen (and Huntswomen). When Freya finds out one of her huntsmen, Eric (Chris Hemsworth) breaks the rule for falling in love with a fellow female warrior (Jessica Chastain), she separates them by building an ice wall between them.

Review: HUSH (2016)


Maddie Young (Kate Siegel) is an author who has been deaf and mute since the age of 13 due to meningitis. She lives alone in a house deep in the woods and her physical human interaction so far is her neighbour named Sarah (Samantha Sloyan). One night while she is struggling with a writer's block on her second novel, a masked stranger (John Gallagher Jr.) turns up in front of her house. Instead of killing her immediately, he begins to toy with her in an elaborate cat-and-mouse game.

Apparently she has been rescued from the crash and brought over by a middle-aged man named Howard (John Goodman). He later reveals to her that it's not safe outside due to a mysterious chemical attack.

Review: BEFORE I WAKE (2016)


Following the tragic death of their young son Sean (Antonio Romero), Jessie (Kate Bosworth) and Mark (Thomas Jane) are struggling to maintain a healthy relationship. As they no longer able to conceive other children, they decide to adopt a kid in order to start a new family. Soon, they welcome an 8-year-old kid named Cody (Jacob Tremblay). He is cute, bright and instantly likable. But there is one peculiar thing about him: Cody is terrified of falling asleep and he will do anything to stay awake. Apparently, Cody has a mysterious gift that able to make his dreams literally come true whenever he sleeps. Through Cody's imagination, Jessie and Mark able to experience wonderful images. But the downside of Cody's dreams lies a nightmare known as "The Canker Man" (Christopher "Topher" Bousquet).

Ulasan: THE JUNGLE BOOK (2016)


Filem live-action THE JUNGLE BOOK mengisahkan kehidupan seorang anak hutan bernama Mowgli (Neel Sethi) yang dibesarkan oleh sekelompok haiwan liar termasuk sekumpulan serigala bernama Raksha (suara Lupita Nyong'o) dan Akela (suara Giancarlo Esposito), harimau kumbang bernama Bagheera (suara Ben Kingsley) dan beruang bernama Baloo (suara Bill Murray). Akibat dari ancaman seekor harimau bernama Shere Khan (suara Idris Elba), Mowgli dipaksa meninggalkan hutan yang sudah sekian lama menjadi tempat tinggalnya untuk pulang ke kampung bersama kaum manusia.

Jon Favreau's live-action version of THE JUNGLE BOOK is a satisfying mix of photo-realistic visual spectacle and heartfelt family-friendly adventure.

Review: THE BODYGUARD 特工爺爺 (2016)


Ding (Sammo Hung) is a retired Central Security Bureau (CSB) officer from Beijing who now lives a quiet life in a small town near the Russian border. A recluse who also suffers from an early stage of dementia, Ding subsequently formed an unlikely friendship with a young girl named Cherry (Jacqueline Chan Pui-Yin). Her father, Li (Andy Lau), is a compulsive gambler heavily in debt who gets himself into trouble after messing up with the local and the Russian gangsters over a bag of jewellery. When Cherry mysteriously disappear, Ding sets out to settle the score all by himself.
